There are two types, those that consist of a folding platform on which you can place the wheelchair, and others which are devices incorporating a seat with back support for one person. There are different versions on the market, some with a chair and others on which the person moves in a standing position. They adapt to different types of stairs, straight stairs, curved stairs… even spiral stairs, and they can go up and down stairs with varying slopes. Finally, there are stair climbers that are for use outdoors.
Some of these devices are also equipped with armrests and even footrests that can be fixed or foldable. They are usually powered by electricity, with or without batteries. They can usually be controlled by the user or a companion. They can be operated in a number of ways: by wireless remote control, with a joystick, by holding down a push button, using call buttons, with an on and off switch activated by a key, etc.
